HCC International is a leading speciality insurer offering niche services across sectors as diverse as Energy, Marine and Film Production. They had been running SharePoint 2007 for a number of years, but saw the significant improvements by upgrading to the latest version of SharePoint.
At the same time HCC also saw an opportunity to automate a number of essential business work-streams, including some compliance obligations related to Solvency II legislation using automatic documentation set versioning – a feature not available in SharePoint 2007.
Following an extensive scoping phase involving line of business stakeholders and technical IT team members HCC opted for a migration and upgrade to SharePoint 2016.
HCC wanted to involve a wide variety of stakeholders from across the business in order to make their new digital workplace everyone’s digital workplace, not just IT’s, crucial for the adoption of the solution, HR and Marketing fed back into the initial engagement what employees had been asking for and ideas to improve engagement with the tool, this included a better look and feel, in line with the companies brand, and a rich news feature to increase awareness of goings on across the business.
Whilst opting for the latest and greatest from Microsoft the team over at HCC also wanted to explore what else they could do to transform the way they work and kick start their digital revolution, the new rich functionality of SharePoint would enable the teams to automate business processes by utilising Nintex workflow, liberating internal teams by reducing the once paper heavy processes, saving time and money.
We had managed for several years on the SharePoint 2007 and 2003 versions with no branding or customisations, but knew we could offer our users much more. With no specific internal SharePoint expertise, a supported upgrade seemed the best route forward.
bluesource upgraded and fully re-branded HCC’s Intranet portal, delivering improved efficiency and document management for the business. Intelligent document storage and search capabilities enables faster access to important data.In addition SharePoint was fully relaunched as a core business communication tool with team-sites and project sites revamped to enable better collaboration. This was a core element of the scoping and planning phase implemented during the initial stages of the project.Business critical Solvency II compliance issues were also addressed using Nintex. Automatic documentation enabled creation versioning and workflow automation was used in tandem with SharePoint to ensure compliance demands were met.
